Rooms of Redbull Radio

For your information:

Rooms of Red Bull is becoming more and more of a creative compound with all the stuff that is going on at the moment. Like any non-conformist commune, it’s important for us to be heard outside of our lovely hub in the Red Light District. That’s why we have now launched Rooms of Red Bull Radio, coming to you daily between 12.00 and 0.00 CET.

You should really drop in and take a peak at our radio studio in the Inspiration Room after we have officially opened on June 4th. This is where we broadcast our live shows from, on weekdays except Monday between 20.00 – 22.00, and an earlier session on Wednesdays between 17.00 and 19.00 hours.

Where would we be without a little help from our friends? The cream of Dutch music talent is taking care of the live shows: Lemon Community, Cracked Out Radio, La Force Sauvage, Bar Weinig, Basserk, Elevator Music, Nachtmantel, Sound of Swound, Manual Movement, The Universe, Thriller Radio, Soundclash Radio, Klinch, Electronation Radio, and Drum Circle have all taken part in our radio expert Erik Holzauer’s workshops, and they are very eager to get their hands on the faders. We can’t wait to hear what this fresh generation of radio hosts has to say.

Missed out on a show? No worries. All the shows will be available to download via the podcast tab on the website.

Welcome to Rooms of Red Bull Radio, the heart and soul of the Red Light District.

L'avant terrible 3: Iannis Xenakis

We're continuing our L'avant terrible series with an installment on one of the great avant-garde composers, Iannis Xenakis. Wikipedia gives us a short bio:

Iannis Xenakis (Ιωάννης Ιάννης Ξενάκης) (May 29, 1922 - February 4, 2001) was a Greek composer, music theorist and architect. He is commonly recognized as one of the most important post-war avant-garde composers. Xenakis pioneered the use of mathematical models such as applications of set theory, varied use of stochastic processes, game theory, etc., in music, and was also an important influence on the development of electronic music.

Among his most important works are Metastaseis (1953–4) for orchestra, which introduced independent parts for every musician of the orchestra; percussion works such as Psappha (1975) and Pléïades (1979); compositions that introduced spatialization by dispersing musicians among the audience, such as Terretektorh (1966); electronic works created using Xenakis' UPIC system; and the massive multimedia performances Xenakis called polytopes. Among the numerous theoretical writings he authored, the book Formalized Music: Thought and Mathematics in Composition (1971) is regarded as one of his most important. As an architect, Xenakis is primarily known for his early work under Le Corbusier: the Sainte Marie de La Tourette, on which the two architects collaborated, and the Philips Pavilion at Expo 58, which Xenakis designed alone.

In our broadcast we will mostly focus on the electronic side of his repertoire but we will also briefly touch upon his other work. As a special intro the man himself will talk about his thoughts on music and his compositions.

Double Feature
Koonda Holaa - Live @ Poortgebouw / Vaar out, you Hippies!

This installment of La Force Sauvage is a double feature, featuring a lot of singing, guitars and hippies. First up is a registration of a live concert by Koonda Holaa hailing from The United States but born in the Czech Republic. Koonda Holaa was one of the three acts that performed at the Textuur concert series held on 6th of February at the Poortgebouw in Rotterdam. It's an hour of nice noisy and bluesy music with interesting interludes by the man himself. The second part of this La Force Sauvage is an hour of spaced out modern hippie music sprouting names like Kenneth Kirschner, Panda Bear, Bibio and Castanets. As it is official spring time we encourage you to pick some flowers and put them in your hair.
